CMPD - Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) Statistics

The ICE statistical information listed is gathered from all those persons arrested and booked at CMPD Jail.  These persons are initially screened and if they meet certain ICE criteria they are subsequently interviewed by a full-time ICE agent assigned to the CMPD.  The ICE agent is also responsible for placing holds (detainers) on those who are deemed illegal immigrants as part of the agreement between ICE and CMPD in the enforcement of federal immigration laws.  These detainers are not solicited and/or placed by CMPD personnel.   The current arrangement with ICE has withstood the critical eye of advocates on both sides of this issue, as well as the media.  It has allowed CMPD officers to return to their field duties in the most expeditious manner possible, and has permitted ICE to focus on their primary responsibility, i.e., the detection and detention of persons who may be in the country without proper documentation.
