Detective Bureau

The Costa Mesa Police Detective Bureau conducts follow-up criminal investigations into a variety of crimes.  The Detective Bureau is under the command of a lieutenant, and is separated into three details: Property Crimes, Economic Crimes, and Crimes Against Persons (CAP).  Each of the details is supervised by a sergeant.  Also located within the Detective Bureau is the Crime Analysis Unit.

Detective Lieutenant - Paul Dondero

Lieutenant Dondero began his law enforcement career in 1986 with the Costa Mesa Police Department. During his career, he has had the opportunity to work a variety of assignments, including: Patrol, Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Investigator, Patrol and Narcotic Canine Handler, Narcotic and Vice Detective, Patrol Area Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, and Area Commander.  In 2002, he was selected as the Narcotic Investigator of the Year for 2001-2002 by the Orange County Narcotic Officers' Association.

Lieutenant Dondero has an Associate of Arts Degree in Education, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement from California State University, Long Beach, and is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, Class 203. Lt. Dondero also serves as a merit badge counselor with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoys actively participating in his church parish community.
